Luca's musical career began 7 years ago with his participation in the German talent show "Deutschland sucht den Superstar", which he won. His first single reached number one in the German, Austrian and Swiss charts, and was followed by sold-out concert tours, festivals and TV shows. In 2017 he also won the German dance show "Dance Dance Dance". Luca was a member of the Swiss jury for Eurovision 2016, and a year later in Kiev he presented the points of Switzerland. With his song "She Got Me" he wants to share his passion for dance and music with the whole audience. Luca is one of the favourites this year and you can read our intervew with him below.
1. What does it feel like to be taking part in Eurovision for your country?
I feel just fantastic about my participation at ESC. It’s a great honor to represent my country. It’s the biggest music event of the world and there are so many interesting and talented artists on this stage. ESC is for sure one of the greatest chances for an artist to be able to show their talent to such a huge audience.
2. How did you find out that you have been chosen to represent Switzerland?
At an event in Switzerland it was announced who gets the chance to represent our country at ESC in 2019. Me, my family and friends were so excited.
3. Many people have always wanted to see you at ESC. Is it the same for you – when did you decide that you want to take part in the contest?
ESC was in my mind for a long time, but time was missing for me until now. It’s such a great contest. The final decision on the Swiss appearance was finally made by the audience panel and the expert jury. I’m very honored and happy about this decision.
4. From what we see, your preparations are very intense. How are they going and what are your plans from now until May?
A special challenge for me is to combine the dance performance with my singing. I practice almost every day to make sure I can show a great performance. Besides that there are many interviews planned.
5. What is it like to work with such a successful staging director like Sacha Jean-Baptiste?
Sacha is such a talented creative director. It’s a lot of fun to work with her. We are all looking forward to finally stand on the big stage.
6. Tell us more about your recent visit to Tel Aviv. What impressed you the most?
I love Tel Aviv, it was such a great time over there and I’m already excited for the next time in May. I’m always looking forward to meet new people and cultures.
7. You are both a very experienced dancer and singer. Does this give you more confidence and security?
Dancing is definitely my passion and I love it. I regularly take dancing lessons to improve myself and be able to integrate dancing in my shows. It’s a challenge to combine both, dancing and singing.
8. Having been in the jury panel of your country before, do you feel like you already know what does it take to impress the international juries this year?
In 2017 I already had the pleasure as spokesperson to give points for songs and to judge performances as a juror. As participant at ESC it’s the first time for me. A great song combined with the right performance is the perfect mix for ESC I think.
9. As we mentioned earlier, you’ve already been a jury member. You’ve also presented the Swiss voting results and now you are going to sing on stage! What would you like to do next, regarding ESC?
At the moment, I work at my fifth album and I plan my new live show. In summer there are some festivals planned and in winter my concert tour starts. So after ESC, I’m looking forward to go on with my new album, new shows as well as concerts.
